The Nigerian army reported on Thursday that soldiers have successfully eradicated at least 53 gunmen in northern Nigeria as part of a clean-up operation.
Army spokesman Musa Danmadami told a news conference that another 59 suspected gunmen and kidnappers and their collaborators were captured during the operations.
Danmadami said that as a result of the air interdiction operations on the gunmen’s logistical bases, 118 kidnap victims were rescued in the north of the country, where the Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa groups are active.
The army official said 29 terrorists were killed and 20 others captured by the army.
