A Danish oil tanker under the Liberian flag was attacked by pirates off the coast of Congo-Brazzaville in the Gulf of Guinea.

Its owner Monjasa announced on Tuesday that contact had been lost with the 16 sailors for three days. It said the pirates were able to board the Monjasa Reformer on Saturday evening. The crew has moved to the safety of the citadel of the boat. The company said in a statement that no communication with the seamen has been established since Saturday evening.

This maritime supply vessel, with a capacity of 13,700 tonnes, must supply ships with fuel. According to Congolese authorities, three men attacked the ship and took it hostage, and the crew has not been reachable since.

The shipowner, which employs 568 people worldwide, said it had no further information to give, including the nationalities of the sailors. The head of the International Maritime Bureau’s (IMB) piracy reporting center in Malaysia said a missing ship notice had been passed on to passing ships to report if they came across it
