C10+: Ali Bongo receives an Emissary of the Sierra Leonean President

The Gabonese President, Ali Bongo Ondimba on Monday received in the audience at the Renovation Palace, the Sierra Leonean Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Francis, bearer of a written message from President Julius Maada Bio, to his Gabonese counterpart.

A press release from the Presidency indicated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sierra Leone conveyed his President’s thanks to the Gabonese Head of State for agreeing to host the next C10+ Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Libreville in May 2023.

The text of the communiqué added that the conclusions of this summit will be presented in Malabo, in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, in November 2023.

Thus, the chairmanship and coordination of the Committee of Ten African Heads of State (C10+) on the reform of the United Nations Security Council are assured by the President of Sierra Leone.

African presidents have been calling for at least one permanent seat for Africa on the Security Council for 23 years.

Senegalese President Macky Sall told a press conference after the Forum for Peace and Security in Africa that it is unfair that Africa, with 54 countries, is not represented in the UN Security Council” by permanent members.
