As investors anticipated a central bank declaration on monetary policy later this week, the South African rand declined against a stronger dollar on today (27 March).

The rand was trading 0.26% worse versus the dollar at 18.2050 at 06:35 GMT.

The dollar index, which compares the value of the dollar to six important competitors, was up more than 0.2 percent at 103.20.

The local currency did perform slightly better last week, at least versus the dollar, according to a research note from ETM Analytics. But, currency volatility is still the norm of the day.

Early deals saw a little improvement in the benchmark 2030 government bond, with a 1 basis point decrease in yield to 9.925 percent.
