The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, embarked on a tour of Africa on Sunday, her first stop was in Ghana, and she will also visit Tanzania and Zambia.

Harris is a history making figure, being the first woman, African-American, and Asian-American to hold the position of Vice President in the United States.

The purpose of Harris’ trip is to strengthen ties between the United States and central African countries. The visit is part of the Biden administration’s efforts to prioritize Africa in its foreign policy.

During her tour, Harris will engage in discussions on democracy in Ghana, the impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine on Africa, food security, innovations, and the future of young people on the continent.

At the US-Africa summit held three months ago, Harris emphasized that the partnerships between the US and African countries will be based on cooperation rather than the US simply providing aid.

The Vice President identified three key priorities for the partnership: promoting international rules and norms that advance prosperity and security for all, strengthening cooperation between the United States and Africa in multilateral institutions, and identifying ways to make progress within these institutions.
