According to a Labour Party official on Tuesday, opposition candidate Peter Obi of Nigeria’s opposition party has filed a court lawsuit contesting the results of the contentious presidential vote held last month, which the ruling party claimed victory in.

Behind the winner, Bola Tinubu of the ruling all Progressives Congress party and the leading opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obi, who ran as an outsider and inspired young and first-time voters, finished third in the poll.

“We are contesting the credentials of the nominee who was deemed the winner. We are also contesting the procedures used to determine his victorious status, among others “Speaking on behalf of the Labour Party, Yunusa Tanko remarked.

Several issues, including failures in systems intended to prevent vote tampering, were highlighted by election monitors from the European Union, the Commonwealth, and other organizations.

Although they did not claim fraud, the observers criticized the election commission for its shoddy planning and long voting lines. The commission itself issued an apology for the count’s technical difficulties.
