On Monday, the head of the Malian junta, Colonel Assimi Goita, met with religious leaders, politicians, and civil society to promote the new draft constitution of Mali.
Colonel Assimi Goita said that the object of his meetings is the draft constitution, adding that this draft is the result of discussions by members of the commission and takes into account the concerns of citizens.
It should be noted that Colonel Assimi Goita had asked members of the government to adopt the draft constitution and implement it among the population.
The postponement of the referendum was justified by the Malian junta by the time needed to install the representatives of the election management body.
The draft had previously been rejected by the country’s religious leaders who criticized the notion of secularism.
