Job Sikhala, 50, is an activist and member of the Zimbabwean opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who has been detained since June along with other party members for inciting public violence.

He lost his bid to have the case dismissed on Thursday, as magistrate Marewanazvi Gofa refused his request for an acquittal, ruling that there was “overwhelming” and reliable evidence against him.

The activist, on the other hand, felt that the State’s case was weak and should be dismissed. Thus Sikhala has applied for bail 15 times but to no avail.

The activist’s lawyer told the press that the decision would be appealed.

The activist was charged on the basis of a video in which he is alleged to have sought justice for the murder of another opponent whose body was found in a well.
