A first group of 64 Burkina Faso nationals repatriated from Tunisia arrived in Ouagadougou on Wednesday on a plane chartered by the government of Burkina, where they were welcomed by members of the government and their families.

These nationals wanted to flee the violence targeting sub-Saharan Africans since President Kais Saied’s speech concerning illegal sub-Saharan immigrants.

In this sense, the Minister Delegate for Regional Cooperation, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré assured that the government has the responsibility to ensure the safety of its citizens, adding that other groups will be repatriated in the same way.

Some of the repatriated people expressed to the press their relief after the repatriation, while describing their suffering in Tunisia where they were chased from their homes, lost their jobs, etc.

Guinea organized the first repatriation flight for its nationals on 1 March and received a total of 725 people.
