The Mauritanian News Agency reported that the President of the Mauritanian Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al Ghazouani, received on Tuesday a delegation of the Polisario Front, who handed him a written message from the leader of the Front, Ibrahim Ghali.

The News Agency said that Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al Ghazwani had received Mohamed Salem Ould Al-Salik, in his capacity as “in charge of diplomatic affairs”, where the two sides reviewed the cooperation relations between them.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the Sahara conflict and its progress at the political and field level, especially the efforts made by the United Nations to resume the political process of the conflict. As well as the “imaginary war” promoted by the Polisario Front, in addition to deliberating about the Mauritanian position on the file, and the extent of its involvement, in supporting the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Staffan de Mistura, and encouraging the United Nations Mission in the Desert “MINURSO”.

The Mauritanian official news agency presented Ibn Battoush as the “Sahrawi president,” and defined the two sides as “brother countries.”

The Mauritanian side is taking a risky move that signals a significant change in their stance on the Sahara conflict. They are attempting to demonstrate that they are part of the solution rather than the problem.
