The border between the Central African Republic and Sudan reopened in March 2023, particularly at the level of the Central African prefecture Vakaga. Leonard Mbele, its prefect, announces a strengthening of security “on both sides, Sudan side and Central African side”, on a strategic axis for the supply of the north of his country.

A week after the reopening of the border between the Central African Republic and Sudan, truck traffic is slowly resuming between the two countries. The border was closed in January for fear of destabilization of the Bangui authorities by armed Sudanese elements, in an area where trafficking in human beings, drugs, and arms are rampant.

On March 11, 2023, the prefect of Vakaga, Leonard Mbele, met with the Sudanese consul in Birao to strengthen the security of this strategic axis for the supply of all of the north of the Central African Republic.
