The Permanent Secretary for Legal Affairs in the Zambian Ministry of Justice, Mwenya Bwalya, has announced that the Democracy Summit is scheduled to take place on 29 and 30 March in Lusaka, Zambia.

The summit, which will be held under the theme “Free, Fair and Transparent Elections as the Basis for Democratic Governance”, will bring together 22 heads of state.

Co-hosted by Zambia, Costa Rica, the Netherlands and the Republic of Korea, the summit is the second of its kind after the one hosted by the US in 2021.

According to Ms Bwalya, the summit will enable Zambia to demonstrate its democratic achievements and its ability to resolve disputes and respect the rights and freedoms of all citizens.

She added that Zambia will be hosting the Summit because of its strong foundation in democratic governance, saying Zambia is a good example of democratic governance and peaceful transfer of power.
