The military prosecutor, Captain-Magistrate Bamusamba Kabamba, delivered an indictment before the Kinshasa-Gombe garrison military court, situated in the Ndolo military prison district, stating that the victims had been kidnapped and taken deep into the forest before being executed.

The trial concerns the assassination of the Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Luca Attanasio, his Italian bodyguard, Vittorio Iacovacci, and a Congolese World Food Program (WFP) driver, Mustapha Milambo, which took place on February 22, 2021.

Five out of the six defendants in the case are currently detained at the Ndolo military prison, with the sixth still on the run. The defendants are being prosecuted for “murder, criminal association, illegal possession of weapons, and munitions of war.”

Furthermore, The trial has been ongoing since October 12 and took place in a region plagued by violence from armed groups for nearly three decades, namely the Virunga National Park in the province of North Kivu in the eastern part of the DRC. The prosecution demanded the same penalty for all defendants.
