In North Kivu, Édouard Mwangachuchu, president of the CNDP, is accused of “treason” and “criminal association”. The High Military Court in Kinshasa has taken him into custody and he must appear before it.

On Tuesday, February 28, the Kinshasa press reported that a cache of weapons had been discovered on the property of Edouard Mwangachuchu Hizi, who was elected from the CNDP, a former militia of North Kivu that became a political party in 2009.

Heavy loads

At the time of the events, the deputy was in the capital. The security services apprehended him and immediately brought him before the High Military Court.

Boss of the Bisunzu mining company, the man has several times been accused by his political opponents of maintaining a private militia, which is responsible for the insecurity in Masisi, his electoral stronghold. It was a local self-defense force that discovered the weapons. According to them, the arsenal would be intended for the M23.

The MP strongly denies

Already in 2019, the deputy was accused of supporting the rebels. Once again, he firmly denies all the charges against him and his relatives speak of an organized conspiracy.
