Moroccan and international experts pleaded, on Saturday, during the 2nd edition of MD Sahara held in Dakhla from 3 to 5, for better governance in the African continent in several fields such as urban planning, water management, road safety and digitalization.

The 2023 edition of the MD Sahara is devoted to Africa, the actions undertaken by the Kingdom in favour of the continent as well as the achievements of Moroccan diplomacy.

The expert in geopolitics and President of the Moroccan-Israeli Friendship Circle (CAMI), Gabriel Banon said that Africa is called to multiply the groupings between states to raise the same voice, especially since in Africa, there are powerful states either at the economic or political level.

Mr Banon said that cooperation between African states is not enough but that it is necessary to face obstacles related to the rural exodus, the flight of young brains abroad, in order to develop.

For her part, the legal and institutional expert in water and sustainable development, president of the Moroccan coalition for water (COALMA) and governor of the World Water Council, Houria Tazi Sadeq, focused on water stress and water management as a major challenge for the coming decade.

In this sense, Ms. Tazi Sadeq presented alarming figures saying that the demand for water resources in Africa far exceeds the supply, which is unevenly distributed. And that 1/3 of the African population does not have access to drinking water. Only 30% have access to sanitation services and 65% could face water stress by 2025.

To solve the problem of access to water and its scarcity, Mrs. Tazi Sadeq called for better management of water resources and the implementation of joint and effective action.

This event is placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and organised by the media group Maroc Diplomatique.
