The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognized that there were a few hiccups during the Presidential and National Assembly elections that was held on February 25th. However, the commission has assured Nigerians that it is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the upcoming governorship and state legislature elections run smoothly.

Speaking at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gave the assurance while addressing all state Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

Yakubu acknowledged that the commission encountered challenges during the last elections but emphasized that the lessons learned would be used to improve the logistics management for future elections.

Yakubu also announced that the commission would be using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the election.

The Chairman disclosed that the BVAS system is currently being revamped to prevent any hitches, particularly with the upload of results, which was a significant challenge during the last elections. Yakubu expressed confidence that the new system would run optimally.

The Chairman urged the RECs to redouble their efforts to ensure the upcoming elections do not experience similar challenges.
