Bernadette Dow, a former minister in charge of culture in Burkina Faso, warned during the third day of the international symposium organized by the Academy of Morocco on Oral Culture that modern technology poses a threat to the African oral cultural heritage.

Bernadette Dow said that modern communication technologies threaten oral culture on the African continent with extinction if efforts are not combined to protect it, calling for the creation of a platform for preserving folklore.

Folklore, which for centuries has been transmitted from mouths to ears, that is not written down,  makes it vulnerable to lose.

The same speaker stressed the need to integrate oral culture into the digital system, especially since a large part of the population in rural areas, which constitute the cradle of popular culture, suffers from illiteracy, calling on university researchers to work on this issue.
