During an intervention on the sidelines of the opening of the plenary meeting of the Africa Focus Group, Ismail Chekkori, the Director of Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, stated on Wednesday in Niamey that armed separatist groups pose a threat to stability and development in Africa.

The Moroccan diplomat explained that armed separatist groups, terrorist groups, and other armed groups serve hidden interests.

He insisted on the need to fight against these three vectors which have been undermining the stability and development of Africa for decades.

The terrorist threat is growing and requires effective and rapid responses, as this threat is currently spreading from the Sahel region to the West African countries.

He explained that the deadliest terrorist attacks in Africa have been recorded in the Sahel.

In this sense, he stressed the need to opt for innovative formulas that take into consideration current realities and the results obtained, because Africa and its resources belong to its people and its stability will be beneficial for global security.

It is with great pride that Morocco will co-chair this meeting, affirming its role as a leader in the fight against terrorism, and as a provider of peace and stability in Africa, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
