DRC: in Ituri, The Head of Monusco Visits a Region still Plagued by Violence

On March 1st, 2023, Bintou Keita, the head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Monusco), traveled to Bunia in Ituri, a region in eastern DRC that is particularly troubled by the activities of armed groups.

Since February 27, 2023, the head of the local United Nations peacekeeping mission (Monusco) has been visiting eastern DRC. After Goma, the capital of North Kivu, Bintou Keita is now in the province of Ituri, in Bunia, a region particularly troubled by the activism of armed groups. In particular, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), affiliated with the Islamic State in the territory of Mambassa, and the community self-defense militias in the territory of Djugu, with the Cooperatives for the development of Congo (Codeco) or the Zaires.

Yet another outbreak of violence has been observed there in recent months, according to Monusco, the military authority and civil society.
