In Sudan, a young man was killed on Tuesday during a new demonstration demanding the return to power for civilians. It has been 17 months now that part of the youth have regularly taken to the streets and faced violent repression from the police. But this time, the death of the protester was filmed.

It is a painful sequence to see which circulates this Wednesday on social networks in Sudan. We see an armed policeman, facing some demonstrators, on an avenue in Sharq-Al-Nil, a suburb east of Khartoum.

A young man stands before the policeman, his bare chest exposed, unyielding. The officer raises his gun and fires twice. The young man crumples to the ground, struggling to prop himself up on his elbows. He gazes at his attacker for a fleeting moment before succumbing to his injuries and falling back, lifeless.

125th protester killed since the coup

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors has identified the young man. His name was Ibrahim Majzoud and he was 18 years old. On Tuesday, he took part in a new demonstration at the invitation of the popular resistance committees, which are demanding the withdrawal of the military from power and rejecting any negotiations with them.

Under pressure, the Sudanese police said in a statement that it was an “individual action contrary to orders” and those proceedings had been immediately initiated against the police officer involved. Ibrahim Majzoub is the 125th protester killed since the October 25, 2021 coup.
