The Global Energy Monitor, which tracks oil and gas conditions around the world, said that Nigeria, Egypt, Libya and Algeria, which historically have the most proven gas reserves and production, may be overtaken by other countries.

The same organization revealed that Morocco’s current reserves amount to about 39 billion cubic meters of gas, while Mauritania has 574 billion cubic meters, part of which comes from joint reserves with Senegal, which are estimated at 566 billion cubic meters.

In its report, Global Energy Monitor expects these countries to accelerate the development of gas production in the short term. It even expects that Mozambique, Mauritania, Tanzania, South Africa and Ethiopia will account for more than half of gas production in Africa by 2038.

Global Energy Monitor estimates that realizing projects in African countries, and in order to achieve the expected results by governments, requires investments estimated at $329 billion, which will allow gas extraction and the establishment of appropriate infrastructure for export.

The CEO of the British “Sound Energy” company responsible for oil and gas exploration in Morocco, Graham Lyon, announced in December 2022, in an interview that “Morocco has a great wealth of natural gas reserves, which will help it achieve self-sufficiency, and even move to Exporting gas to international markets.
