Some Nigerians were able to vote on Saturday in the general elections to elect the next president and senators.

In this polling station in Lagos, no major incident was reported as this young Nigerian woman points out: the general election will be free and fair given what I saw, I just went out to vote and people come out to do the same too.

“I walked a long distance to get here and I would say when I get to my polling station I can see the turnout is actually very good, but in terms of the arrival of the representatives of the ‘INEC, well, we expected more from them pointed out another.” added the Nigerian woman.

According to local media, the INEC did not produce enough ballots for the more than 80 million voters registered on its electoral lists, resulting in several polling stations being left behind.

Until an hour before the announced closing, polling stations in Imo state in the south-east, members of the electoral commission could not be found. According to the commission, insecurity in some states has caused delays as well as logistical problems.
