The calendar that Spain and Morocco set at the High-Level Meeting (RAN) earlier this month continued to develop on Friday, registering two new passages of goods through customs in Ceuta and Melilla.

With these new operations, we are advancing on the planned roadmap towards “complete, progressive and gradual normalization”, to which the two countries had committed to promote trade and to deal with the atypical trade (trabendo) which was registered at these border posts.

The new commercial shipments already incorporate solutions to many technical difficulties detected during the pilot test which took place successfully on January 27, we learn from Spanish sources.

A milestone has been reached for a customs office to be opened in Ceuta and the one in Melilla to be reopened after being closed since 2018.

Work has been carried out to adapt the technical and bureaucratic infrastructure to the needs required by standardized customs clearance.
