Instead of apologizing for his racist speech, which sparked an uproar in Africa, Tunisian President Kais Saied denied that his views were racist, and reiterated that the presence and increase of immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa in the country are part of a conspiracy to change the demographics in Tunisia.

Earlier this week, the Tunisian president ordered the security forces to stop all illegal immigration into Tunisia.

Saied added that illegal immigrants should leave the country, which drew strong criticism.

Human rights associations are preparing to protest after describing what Saeed said as racism and fascism.

Saied’s words aroused fears among the sub-Saharan African community there, and it came to the point that a Nigerian student association in Tunisia wrote to its members advising them not to spend time in certain areas of the capital, Tunis, or to be abroad without documents.
