In the northern region of Togo, the scene of jihadist incursions, the World Food Program (WFP) intends to provide assistance for three months.

This program should help dozen of people. “Our target is the populations who are the most vulnerable”, explains the local representative of the WFP.

In Togo, concerns persist about the security situation in the Savanes region in the north, the scene of jihadist incursions. A little over a week ago, a dozen people were killed in an attack on two villages in Kpendjal, according to several sources.

The Togolese authorities no longer communicate about the attacks or their assessments for the moment. A situation that causes population displacements. Because of this situation and at the request of the government, the World Food Program (WFP) announces that it will provide assistance that should benefit several thousand people: internally displaced persons, people from Burkina Faso, but also families who welcome them.

“Our target is the populations that are the most vulnerable”

“We know a state of emergency has been declared. So the state is there,” said Aboubacar Koïsha, WFP representative in Togo, accompanied by Magali Lagrange. But for us, as a humanitarian organization focus on, these are the most vulnerable populations.

“So we do this by targeting those who need our assistance and can receive it, these people are being displaced leaving behind everything they have in terms of material, such as food, this need has presented. The WFP is providing food assistance for three months”.
