The Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu, called on Monday at a press briefing in Nairobi for African countries to adopt digital tools to increase agricultural output in the face of climate shocks.

According to Mr. Qu, geospatial and digital technologies have become crucial in addressing the challenges faced by farmers.

In this regard, Mr. Qu noted that several problems are emerging with the advent of climate change. Animal and zoonotic diseases and pests are some examples.

To address these challenges, Mr. Qu stressed that it is essential to adopt digital tools for the management of emerging crops and to mitigate the adverse consequences of climate change.

In this context, the official praised Kenya for joining the global food coalition launched by FAO to promote sustainable agri-food systems, adding that FAO would always be on Kenya’s side to boost food production by supporting it in the area of agricultural techniques.
