The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in early February killed 44,000 people in both countries. It was a staggering tragedy that shook the world.

Among the victims was former Ghanaian international footballer Christian Atsu, whose remains were flown home yesterday.

The 31-year-old former Chelsea and Newcastle player was found dead after false reports circulated that he had been rescued a day after the earthquake.

At the time his body was rescued, his older brother and twin sister were present at the scene.

In this context, Ghana’s Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia said all Ghanaians have been praying that Christian Atsu would be found alive.

On his part, a supporter of the Ghana New Patriotic Party explained that all Ghanaians and the government of Ghana will ensure that the burial of the star is worthy of the name.
