The 36th ordinary session of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the 54 member countries of the African Union (AU) resumed today with the participation of Morocco.
The summit, whose theme is “Accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA)”, is chaired by the President of the Union of Comoros, Azali Assoumani, whose country has held the rotating presidency of the AU since Saturday.
Among the topics to be discussed at the 36th summit are the institutional reform of the African Union, peace and security on the continent, food security, and the AU’s solutions to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The summit will also discuss the AU’s seat in the G20, the implementation of Agenda 2063, climate change and the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA).
