According to local media, a 52-year-old American who had been on the run in Morocco for nine years was apprehended at the request of US officials.

The alleged pedophile fled to Morocco after failing to show up for a court hearing in May 2014, where the FBI extradited him to the United States, in collaboration with Moroccan authorities.

The American was accused of “five counts related to the abuse of minors, including sexual exploitation, physical violence, abuse of trust, and tampering with evidence,” according to legal sources. He was detained without the chance of release on bail while awaiting his trial, which will begin next Friday.
