King Felipe VI makes historic visit to Angola to consolidate ties

The Spanish king Felipe VI and his wife Queen Letizia were received by Angolan president Joao Lourenço at the presidential palace as part of a state visit.

Joao Lourenço welcomed the royal visit, describing it as historic and unprecedented while stressing the desire to consolidate bilateral ties.

He added that this is the first visit of His Majesty to a country in sub-Saharan Africa. This visit attests to the importance given to the relations between the two countries in several commercial, diplomatic, and economic fields.

During a ceremony organized in honor of King Felipe VI, President Joao Lourenço awarded the King and his wife the highest distinction of the Angolan State. For his part, the King decorated the Angolan president and his wife.

On this occasion, King Felipe VI highlighted Angola’s strategic role as a capable, credible, and priority partner for Spain.

During the visit, Angola and Spain signed three agreements on the training of diplomats in the field of industry and sports.
