Reacting to the follow-up meeting of the Tangier Call, a solemn call for the expulsion of the pseudo-“rasd” from the African Union, the executive committee of the African National Congress (ANC), the party of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, called on the South African government to work towards “the expulsion of Morocco from the African Union”.

In contrast to the Polisario, which widely shared this South African riposte on the official polisario press agency, Algeria did not react to the Tangier Call follow-up meeting.

The ANC has adopted hostile positions towards Morocco for years. One need only recall the official reception that was organized in Pretoria ‘in honor of the leader of the Polisario’, Brahim Ghali. In parallel with this provocative act, a sit-in was organized in front of the Moroccan embassy, to ‘denounce what they call the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara’.

These enmity acts are not new. Indeed, in 2019, the ANC criticized its members who voted in favor of the candidature of the Moroccan Mohamed Boudra for the presidency of the organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), during the congress in Durban.
