A violent earthquake that struck southeastern Turkey on Monday left an initial toll of 1,500 dead and at least 5,385 injured in Turkey and Syria, due to the collapse of 2,818 buildings, according to data released by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

This tool is very provisional and is expected to rise, as a large number of people remain trapped under the rubble.

It should be recalled that the first tremor occurred at 4:17 am local (1:17 am GMT), in the province of Kahramanmaras (southeast), about 60 km as the crow flies from the Syrian border.

Due to this tragic event, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ankara announced in a statement that it has provided members of the Moroccan community in Turkey with telephone numbers and e-mail addresses to contact members of the embassy in case of need for assistance.
