From the heart of a country decimated by war, Pope Francis decided to end his journey in South Sudan with an appeal for peace and forgiveness.

Francis presided over an open-air mass Sunday in the capital, Juba, and made his appeal to an audience of 100,000.

Pope Francis urged the audience to reject the “blind anger of violence”, including the head of state and his opponents.

Ending tribalism, corruption, and financial disputes was one of the most prominent things that Francis called for, in addition to building good human relations in order to reduce the corruption of evil, the disease of division, and the epidemic of injustice.

Francis wished that hope and peace would dwell among the people of southern Sudan, calling on them not to miss any opportunity to build peace.
