The German Finance Minister Christian Lindner, has called on China to join countries that have lent to Ghana, in setting up a committee to help it restructure its debt.
Linder’s call to an urgently save of the West African country’s economic situation came during his visit to Ghana on Friday.
The German Finance Minister added that he called on China to remind it of its responsibilities as a very important bilateral creditor to Ghana, stressing that he did the same during the International Monetary Fund meetings in October 2022.
Ghana is suffering its worst economic crisis in a generation, and although it secured a $3 billion loan through a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund, the approval of the funds depends on restructuring its $39 billion debt.
