In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the head of mission of Medecins (MSF) takes stock of the situation following the seizure by the M23 of the village of Kitchanga, in North Kivu, in the east of the DRC. “Following the hits, people will scatter throughout the area,” said Alessandra Giudiceandrea.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the M23 rebellion took control of the town of Kitchanga, on the border of the Rutshuru and Masisi territories in the eastern province of North Kivu, on 26 January 2023.

Fighting that has caused major population movements while the number of displaced people is already in the hundreds of thousands of people in the region. The camps are saturated and there are many difficulties for Alessandra Giudiceandrea, Head of Mission of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in the DRC.

“There is the reality of Nyiragongo in which there are several sites, she explains to the microphone of Paulina Zidi. The answer was slow to take shape but finally, it begins. It is true that the population still lives on the side of the road. Living next to the road exposes them to car accidents. Recently, we took care of 437 displaced people, victims of road accidents”.
