Burkina Faso: the government reveals a series of advantages for VDPs

The government has unveiled the monetary and in-kind advantages given to the Homeland Defense Volunteers. According to the document signed by the Ministers of Defense and of the Economy and Finance, the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland benefit from an operation bonus, food, and health care coverage, among others.

First of all, remuneration: each volunteer will receive 60,000 CFA francs per month, around 90 euros, for the duration of their one-year renewable contract. To this amount is added an allowance for food reserved for VDPs who operate throughout the territory.

The groups of Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland will also receive between 200,000 and 300,000 CFA francs (ie between 305 and 457 euros) for the purchase of fuel and the maintenance of the vehicles made available to them.

Risk insurance is also recorded: in the event of an injury in combat, care is provided. If the volunteer becomes disabled, an allowance of 30,000 CFA francs (45 euros) will be paid to him every month for five years.

In the event of death, the State will pay the burial costs set at 100,000 CFA francs. The beneficiaries, the relatives of the killed VDPs will benefit from a one-time financial assistance of one million CFA francs, a little more than 1,500 euros.
