The Pentagon announced Thursday that it had eliminated, on Wednesday, January 25, a senior Islamic State organization identified as Bilal al-Sudani and ten of his men in northern Somalia.

Joe Biden agreed to this operation, which has been intensely prepared for months at the start of the week. The US military had even reconstructed caves identical to the Somali mountains for training, the Pentagon said.

This time, no killer drone, but a Navy Seals commando sent to the ground with the initial mission of capturing Bilal al-Sudani located in a cache in northern Somalia. But faced with jihadist resistance, this emir of the Islamic State for East Africa was eliminated in the fighting along with ten other fighters. The Pentagon announces no losses on its side.

According to Washington, this senior IS official was tasked with expanding the terrorist organization in Africa and funding operations around the world. “Al-Sudani was responsible for encouraging the Islamic State group’s growing presence in Africa and funding its operations around the world, including in Afghanistan,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.
