The spokesperson of the South African Civil Aviation Authority (Sacca), Sisa Majola, said that a light aircraft crash happened on Sunday around the Johannesburg FNB stadium, where they found two people dead.

The two pilots of the aircraft were on a training flight from Grand Central Airport and back, but the crash left them with serious injuries leading to their death, the spokesperson said.

An examination of the crash scene to establish the cause of the accident has been carried out by the competent authorities.

Such accidents are common in South Africa. Last August, five people died when a light aircraft belonging to the South African Police Service (SAPS) crashed at Rand Airport and in June 2022, two pilots died when their aircraft crashed near the city of Port Elizabeth. This is often caused by adverse weather conditions and technical problems.
