The four-day occasion topped Sunday evening with an honors ceremony in the suburbs of Dakar, Senegal’s capital, and saw some of Africa’s most popular musicians, like the Nigerians P-Square and Tiwa Savage, the Malian Rokia Kone and the Senegalese singers Youssou N’dour and Baaba Maal.

Furthermore, Didi B won Best Song of the Year for his rap track ‘Tala’. Taking the stage in front of a cheering audience, he thanked his associates and stated it was his first award of the year.

“I made it and dedicate it to my mother and my fans,” said the Ivorian rapper, singer, and songwriter. “Tala” – Ivorian slang used to define a sort of dance – has been viewed almost 6.5 million times in seven months on YouTube and is played in nightclubs across the mainland.

On the other hand, some known singers were also honored on Sunday, including Nigerian Afrobeat star Burna Boy, who took home the award for best actor in Africa. Another Nigerian, Asake, won New Artist of the Year and Wizkid Best West African Artist.
