Senegal is probably not one of the favorite teams of the 7th edition of CHAN, but the local Lions dream of creating a sensation in Algeria. Housed in a fairly strong group B with the DRC, twice winner of the tournament, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda, Pape Thiaw’s men know the difficulty that awaits them.

Nevertheless, and for one of the rare times in history, the local selection benefited from significant support from the FSF. Following the qualification in front of Guinea, an exceptional bonus of 3 million FCFA was granted to each player.

An advance had even been paid to the players from the first leg won 1-0 by the men of Pape Thiaw. A considerable sum for players who earn an average of 150,000 FCFA per month in their club.

During the traditional ceremony of handing over the national flag to the local selection, Me Senghor galvanized Alioune Badara Faty and his family. Inviting them to go at least until the semi-finals. “CHAN is as important as CAN.

Furthermore, The federation has made efforts and will continue to do so. We are going there with a lot of ambition and humility. The challenge is to create a surprise in our group and qualify. Then try to aim higher (…) Why not aim for an optimal goal of at least the semi-finals for a return to CHAN, it is in our strings and those of the coach”, he invited.
