After his release on 14 December under pressure from the profession and human rights activists, a Senegalese judge ordered yesterday the return to prison of journalist Pape Alé Niang, owner of the website Dakar Matin.

Pape Alé Niang was charged with “disclosing information likely to harm the national defence”, “concealing administrative and military documents” and “disseminating false news”.

The Senegalese journalist was presented yesterday to a judge of the Dakar court who “revoked his decision of provisional freedom with judicial control”, said one of his lawyers, adding that the cause of this new placement in detention is the fact that the journalist has discussed his case on social networks with a Senegalese activist abroad, while the judicial control prohibiting this, adding that he even published a tweet about the director general of the police.
