the Council of Government has approved the appointment of Abdel Kabir Zahoud as the director general of the national company of Strait of Gibraltar’s Studies, affiliated with the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water.

The company is coordinating with the Spanish company of studies communications across the Strait of Gibraltar “SECEGSA” in order to refurbish the sea tunnel project linking Morocco and Spain through the strait.

The project was too long awaited to realize, as the joint committee was appointed to study it 43 years ago in 1979, and since then it was affected more than once by many factors, including political and diplomatic crises.

The Spanish government has allocated 750,000 euros to the same company, in order to prepare a new study with the participation of a German company specialized in preparing studies related to marine tunnels.

The project is about constructing a tunnel across the seabed at the intersection of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and it is expected to be 22 meters long at a depth of 300 meters, linking Punta Paloma (Tarifa) with Malabata (Tangiers).
