In Gabon, the interior ministry has given a divided opposition three days to present two lists of members who will elect the president of the Elections Center (CGE), the institution responsible for organizing the elections. An emergency meeting of the opposition, organized on February 1, 2023, has been suspended.

In Gabon, the opposition continues to tear itself apart. It still cannot reach a consensus on the designation of two lists of its members who will participate in the election of the new president of the Gabonese Election Center (CGE), the institution responsible for organizing the elections.

The majority provided their two lists before the expiry of the deadline, set for January 27, 2023.

On January 31, the Minister of the Interior gave the opposition a 72-hour ultimatum to harmonize its two lists.

To meet this three-day deadline, the opposition urgently called a meeting on February 1, 2023. But the meeting was immediately suspended, explains Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou who chaired it.

“Our friends from PG41 apologized to us, telling us that they had to respond to the summons from the Constitutional Court and that we had to give them some time,” he explains. Because, if we do not succeed in finding a consensual solution, it will be up to the Minister of the Interior to be able to decide for us, which would be irresponsible on our part”.
