At a high-level debate of the United Nations Security Council, Liu Yuxi, the Chinese government’s special representative for African affairs, called on the international community to support Africa’s leading role in its peace and security.

The discussion focused on the impact of development policy on the implementation of the “Silence the Arms” initiative in Africa.

Mr. Liu said that without peace and development in Africa, there will be no stability and prosperity in the world. In this regard, he called on the Security Council to give serious thought to issues such as how to strengthen international coordination to better assist Africa in meeting its challenges and how to advance UN cooperation with Africa to provide stronger support.

He also urged the international community to seek African solutions and provide assistance based on respect and trust, rather than interfering in the internal affairs of other countries in the name of human rights.
