“Transnet”, a state-owned logistics company in South Africa, announced earlier on today that gas deliveries through its Durban pipeline have been stopped after it was harmed by an excavator.
The incident happened yesterday (30march) in the late afternoon when an excavator used to remove waste struck the pipeline unintentionally, According to the firm.
According to a written statement from the firm, the pipeline was split apart and gas flow through it was stopped as a precaution. “Due to a fire on the adjoining trash site, the Transnet Pipelines crew could not enter the pipeline to ascertain the full extent of the damage,” the company said.
Following Thursday night’s successful containment of the fire, Friday morning saw the start of the pipeline’s repairs.
Although the company did not specify a time frame for completion of repairs, it did state that it was trying to restore supplies “as soon as feasible”.
