The opposition political coalition known as the “GCAP” (Consultation Group of Political Parties) is voicing strong opposition to the new administrative and electoral redistricting laws set to be reviewed by the National Transitional Council in the coming days. On Monday, July 22, the group released a 17-page manifesto in N’Djamena to highlight their concerns.

The manifesto aims to raise awareness among both national and international audiences about what the opposition describes as the irregularities of these new laws. Max Kemkoye, the GCAP spokesperson, elaborated on this during an interview with our correspondent, Olivier Monodji.

“This manifesto seeks to sensitize all Chadian populations, particularly the national councilors, by confronting them with historical responsibility,” Kemkoye explained. “We want them to understand that these unjust laws are an explosive cocktail that will shatter the fragile intra-communal and national cohesion.”

Kemkoye emphasized the critical impact of the manifesto, stating that if these laws are not withdrawn, GCAP is prepared to establish citizen awareness committees to organize a collective rejection of the legislative elections. These efforts would include ongoing marches and demonstrations.

“If they continue to endorse this injustice, they will be held accountable for whatever happens in the country,” Kemkoye warned. “We have eight more days to work intensively to ensure these laws are withdrawn.”

The opposition’s call to action underscores the urgency and gravity of the situation in Chad. The GCAP’s manifesto and subsequent actions represent a pivotal moment in the nation’s political landscape, as the group strives to prevent what they see as a significant threat to Chadian unity and democracy.
