With the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intensifying its scrutiny of Naira abuse, Nigerians have devised new strategies to uphold the tradition of spraying money at social gatherings.

The crackdown gained prominence following the legal actions taken against individuals such as the controversial figure Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who received a six-month prison sentence for Naira abuse. Actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin faced similar consequences for defacing Naira notes at a social event in Lagos.

In light of these developments, PUNCH Online outlined nine actions involving the Naira that could result in legal repercussions, including spraying, writing, tearing, stapling, dancing, selling, mutilating, rejecting, and creating money bouquets.

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s Clean Notes Policy aims to maintain the quality and durability of circulating banknotes, ensuring they meet public standards for acceptance and processing.

In response to the crackdown, partygoers and musicians have innovated new methods for spraying money at social events. Some musicians have welcomed the EFCC’s efforts to enforce the ban on Naira abuse, emphasizing the importance of respecting the country’s currency.

Renowned musicians such as Wasiu Alabi (Pasuma), Saheed Osupa, and Adewale Ayuba have expressed support for upholding the integrity of the Naira.
