Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources conducted a comprehensive operation on Thursday, targeting styrofoam food packaging across various markets in different local government areas of the state.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, revealed this development through photos and a video shared on his official social media handle on Friday.

In his caption, Wahab stated, “Officials from the enforcement agencies under the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources intensified efforts to remove banned styrofoam food packaging from markets across the state.”

He continued, “The environmental enforcement team conducted raids on shops in Ikorodu Local Government, Mosan Okunola Local Government, Badagry Local Government, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo Local Government, Somolu, Eti-Ota East LCDA, Eti-Osa Local Government, and other areas of the state.”

Wahab emphasized that all confiscated items would be incinerated, stating, “All seized items have been transported to Marini TLS in Bolade, Oshodi, for proper disposal through incineration.”

He urged all Lagosians to refrain from using, distributing, or selling banned styrofoam packaging across the state.

The proactive measures taken by Lagos authorities underscore their commitment to environmental sustainability and public health, ensuring that banned materials are effectively removed from circulation to protect the well-being of residents and preserve the ecological integrity of the state.
