Nine Activists

The nine activists from Dynamique Mgr Kpodzro, who were apprehended on Wednesday at one of the markets in Lomé, were brought before the public prosecutor on Friday evening.

Following the interrogations, the prosecutor decided to release three activists. However, six of them are accused of “aggravated disturbances to public order.” Five have already been taken to the Lomé civilian prison. Mrs. Dovi Amouzou, 74, president of Dynamique Mgr Kpodzro since the passing of Gabriel Agbéyome Kodjo, suffers from cardiac problems, but she remains on the premises of the intelligence services.

According to a close associate of the DMK, last Wednesday, five activists went to one of the markets in Lomé to raise awareness among women with a banner that read, “Republican urgency says no to the amendment of the Constitution, immediate halt of the ongoing electoral process to finally hold inclusive national consultations.”

On the other hand, the public prosecutor ordered the arrest of the activists on the same day, and 24 hours later, he stated that “while no demonstration is authorized, they were caught distributing leaflets and chanting slogans inciting revolt.” The prosecutor immediately initiated summary proceedings against them, and the trial date is expected to be announced promptly.
