The Lagos State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents during the Easter celebration by deploying 3,500 personnel across all parts of the state.
This deployment comprises both regular and special marshals, demonstrating a concerted effort to enhance road safety during this festive period.
Additionally, the command has allocated forty-five patrol vehicles, three ambulances, eleven power bikes, and three heavy-duty tow trucks to bolster its operational capabilities.
According to the Sector Commander, Babatunde Farinloye, as communicated in a statement by the Corps’ Sector Public Education Officer, Olabisi Sonusi, the personnel will primarily be stationed along critical corridors such as Lagos-Ibadan, Lekki-Epe, Lagos-Abeokuta, Oshodi-Apapa, and Lagos-Badagry.
Their duties will encompass ensuring the smooth flow of traffic, monitoring speed violations, deterring dangerous driving practices, addressing the use of mobile phones while driving, curbing overloading, and addressing other life-threatening infractions. Furthermore, they will promptly be responding to emergencies as needed.
The statement underscores the FRSC’s commitment to enforcing traffic regulations effectively, including checking for compliance with passengers’ manifests for commercial drivers, ensuring seat belt usage, and inspecting the condition of tires to prevent accidents.
In addition to enforcement efforts, the FRSC will conduct extensive public enlightenment campaigns at major motor parks and religious centers. Regular and Special Marshals will be actively engaged in traffic calming and control operations throughout the Easter period.
This comprehensive approach aims to promote a safer road environment and mitigate the risk of accidents, underscoring the FRSC’s dedication to protecting lives and property during the festive season.
